Rugby Jail Changing to Accept Female Prisoners

When men get in trouble with the law authroities lock them up but with women for example there are fewer lockups to send them to But that s about to change at the North Central Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Rugby Debbie Kuehn explains It was as if a ligthbulb had gone off in her mind After two years of brainstorming Elaine Little had her answer Elaine Little Jail administrator -Well we re going to put in six bunks three double bunks We re going to leave the one in it s a cement area Now we use it as a gang cell Little is the administrator of the North Central Correctional and Rehabilitation Center in Rugby She s been trying to accomodate FEMAle prisoners since the center opened in 2006 Elaine- It made me realize it wouldn t cost that much to rennovate that area That we already had the space here Then it really wasn t much of a decision And so over theo co urse of a year based on the revenue It woill be somewhere between the 20- 25-thousand And we will be able to keep revenue rather than pay it to someone else The addition will make it possible to house up to six females here Little says if construction begins right away they may begin taking females as early as the end of ht emonth In Rugby Debbie Kuehn KX News
